Born in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen in Denmark, I grew up in a creative home with my parents, industrial designer and architect Pia Bech Mathiesen and electrical engineer Jesper Kamp Nielsen.
Art and design has always been a part of my life. Growing up with creative parents that took me to museums and galleries shaped my interest in fashion.
Since the summer of 2015, I have been a designer at Karim Design in Copenhagen - one of the most sought after wedding dress companies in Denmark.
My love lies in textile design and haute couture, and the concept of creating with your own hands.
My Design philosophy origins from the Scandinavian design traditions of good materials and the romantic touch of the bridal industry that I have a deep love for. I love playing with colours and creating exciting combinations. When selecting my materials I keep the Danish saying in mind at all time: “Ældes med ynde” or translated “It gracefully gets older”, meaning that in 10, 15 or 30 years is should still look good and it is okay if it has some patina. This also relates to my thoughts about sustainability and consumerism. I very much like leather and wool and I think that lead back to my Scandinavian roots. My preference in fabric is silk, because it is really elegant and very romantic. My inspiration comes from everywhere, but mostly the nature of Scandinavia and the Nordics.
